“A pharmaceutical company that’s a little more than a dozen years old still has a business of drugs it calls a “pharmaceutical market,”” says Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of California, San Francisco.
The company is using its sales force to develop medications called sildenafil citrate, or Viagra, which treats heart problems.
It’s the only drug in the world that is sold in over-the-counter forms. The company said it’s the only drug in the world that is sold in a liquid form.
The company said it has been looking into Viagra’s potential as a treatment for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, and has “a number of potential applications” for it.
In 2010, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, the maker of the drug, submitted a request to the Food and Drug Administration to market the product to the European Union. The FDA’s approval came on a request from the company’s sales force for a liquid formulation.
Pfizer said in a statement that the company’s U. S. sales of Viagra and its European subsidiary, Cialis, are based on its sales force’s ability to identify the market’s more serious problems and to develop a solution for them.
In addition, Pfizer said it is working on a new drug to treat erectile dysfunction, a condition that affects more than 1 in 10 men, in the United States.
In the U. S., Viagra sales are expected to fall by about half in 2010 because of safety concerns about the company’s ability to produce and market a new drug.
The U. Food and Drug Administration has also asked Pfizer to develop a treatment for a rare condition, called PDE-5-positive, that can also be treated with sildenafil.

“We’ve been in the business for over eight years, but we’ve never taken an action on that.”

Cialis is one of the company’s most popular drugs, and has been one of the company’s most successful drugs since the introduction of its first drug in 2003.
In a statement, Pfizer said that it is the only company to have been able to develop Cialis for patients who are not as sexually active. “Our clinical research has demonstrated that Cialis is effective in reducing the duration of sexual activity and the frequency of sexual contact.”
Pfizer also said that the company “is aware of the potential of Cialis to treat other men’s health problems, including erectile dysfunction.”
